Umrao Jaan is a 1981 classic film produced and directed by Muzaffar Ali made from an Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada by Murza Hadi Ruswa. The film is based on the famous courtesan of Lucknow by the same name. The film starred Rekha, Farooq Shaikh, Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Satish Shah, Shaukat Kaifi, and Dina Pathak in lead roles. Rekha received National Film Award for Best Actress for her role.
